BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Speaker series highlighting black entrepreneurship
How it started?
After the brutal murder of George Floyd, Diana White sent out a call in the Black Mtl: Building Our Community Facebook page to start crowdsourcing solutions to work on improving the situation of Black Canadians. Many like-minded individuals answered the call and We Funded It was born in June 2020 with the mission to #FundBlackGoals.
Who are we?
We Funded It is a non-profit organization entirely led by a group of passionate Black women who volunteer their time and expertise to support Black students and entrepreneurs in achieving their goals through scholarships, grants, and mentorship opportunities.
In February 2022, We Funded It will hold a 3-night intimate speaker series called The Diary of a Founder, with inspirational Black entrepreneurs who will share their journeys, including the pitfalls, and the many lessons learned along the way. The themes of the evenings will revolve around diversity in the technology, beauty, and art industries. These themes mirror the career paths of the first few entrepreneurs that have been funded by our organisation.
The fact that this speaker series is being held during Black History Month is no coincidence. We Funded It recognizes the impact of successful role models in our community to inspire the next generation of Black entrepreneurs and Black students. This is an opportunity to learn, network, and inspire each other.
What we do?
We’re a collective of Black volunteers supporting students and entrepreneurs to create wealth and impact our community across Canada.
